CALL FOR VOLUNTEER DERMOSCOPISTS
Lions V Districts Cancer Foundation is making a call for suitably qualified medical professionals and those with appropriate medical knowledge and/or practice, to undertake training as Dermoscopists. The proposal is that the Dermoscopists will be volunteers. Once training is completed the Dermoscopists will be reimbursed their training costs contingent on a commitment to voluntary work.
TRAINING
The Course, delivered by Health Cert International, is a fully online training course collectively known as Certificate 3, Dermoscopy.
Acquiring in-depth knowledge in dermoscopy will enable suitably qualified medical personnel to assess the skin lesions with greater accuracy, detect potential melanomas in the early stages, and avoid unnecessary excisions.
Presented by global leaders in the field, this three-part program can be considered comprehensive dermoscopy online training, as it offers the substantial knowledge required to correctly identify a wide range of potential lesions on any body part, skin typeand patient group.
All applicants for the Course will be required to undertake at least one attendance at a screening event prior to any acceptance by HealthCert as a student to whom the Course can be delivered.
THE ROLE OF THE DERMOSCOPIST
The role of the Dermoscopists undertaking the skin checks/screenings is to identify any suspect lesions.
The Dermoscopists will be provided with handheld dermoscope and all relevant equipment.
Clients would be given a form noting their consultation/skin check in the visiting van advising of any findings. If a suspect lesion is identified the client would be recommended to visit their GP for further investigation/action.
With the target for our launch set for late 2020, we are calling for volunteers.
We need people willing to commit to support this project serving rural and remote communities, by becoming a trained dermoscopist (training and supervision provided)
A Professional Advisory Panel will provide a valuable oversight to our activities.
THE PROJECT
This “ultimate” service will operate across the rural and remote areas of Victoria and Southern NSW, providing full skin screening at no cost to clients.
